Replace the hard drive. If the lights are looking normal on it now and you know the IP, try web browsing it, the Navi software isn't brilliant for detecting them sometimes. I have TFTP Recovery downloaded and installed, my IP address is, the NAS is connected directly to the PC via ethernet and TFTP correctly pulls across the 2 necessary files.I It got to 134.x mb and stuck, then after a minute jumped to 142.6mb then failed.

I've now discovered this doesn't just erase the user data, which would be logical, it wipes the entire device, firmware and all. Also, move the LinkStation to a cooler location.
